Mabase (マバセ?) is a fictional Japanese city that is very ordinary, with the exception for the presence of the giant Medical Mechanica building shaped like an iron. Mabase is the main setting of the original OVA series.
Like most towns and cities, Mabase has schools, businesses and neighborhoods. There is also a large river running through the town, spanned by several bridges and train tracks.
In the novel, the town has a population of 60,000 people. It is described as an industrial town, with Medical Mechanica essentially providing the majority of jobs for the adults and even the children with part time jobs. While the Medical Mechanica plant is where most of the adults and kids work at, Medical Mechanica also operates several other businesses in the area, including Medical Mechanica Hospital, and Medical Mechanica Library.
